Privacy Policy
Effective date: 30 August 2026
Last updated: 30 August 2026
NRI Matrimony (“NRI Matrimony”, “we”, “us” or “our”) operates nri-matrimony.com and provides an online matrimonial platform for adults worldwide. We respect the private and sensitive nature of matrimonial information. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we use it, when it may be visible to other members or shared with service providers, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights available to you.
1. Who controls your personal data
The data controller/data fiduciary is:
NRI Matrimony
Govindpuri, Kalkaji, New Delhi, India
Website: https://nri-matrimony.com
Email: support@nri-matrimony.com
Grievance and privacy contact: Shiwam Raj, reachable at support@nri-matrimony.com and the postal address above.
2. Eligibility and profiles created for another person
The service is for people aged 18 or older. You must not create an account or matrimonial profile for a minor. If you create or manage a profile for an adult son, daughter, relative or friend, you confirm that:
- you are at least 18 years old;
- the person described in the profile is at least 18 years old;
- you have informed that person and have their permission or another valid legal basis to provide and manage their information; and
- the information is accurate and does not violate their privacy, safety or legal rights.
We may ask you to identify your relationship to the profile subject and may restrict, hide or remove a profile if consent, age, authority or authenticity is disputed.
3. Personal data we collect
Depending on how you use the service, we may collect the following categories:
- Account and contact information: name, email address, mobile number, password credentials in protected form, country, city and account status.
- Profile-manager information: the name and contact details of the person creating or managing a profile, their relationship to the profile subject, and whether the profile is for self, a son, daughter, relative or friend.
- Matrimonial profile information: date of birth or age, gender, marital status, religion, community, mother tongue, education, profession, income range, country, city, lifestyle information, family information, biography and partner preferences.
- Photos and media: profile photos, photo-approval status and related moderation information. We do not use profile photos for facial recognition or biometric identification unless we first provide a separate notice and obtain any legally required consent.
- Potentially sensitive information: religion, community, marital status, lifestyle details, private communications and other information you choose to include in a matrimonial profile. You should not upload government identification numbers, financial credentials, medical records or other information that is unnecessary for matchmaking.
- Activity and communications: searches, saved or accessed profiles, profile unlocks, chat requests, accepted conversations, messages, notifications, blocks, reports, moderation actions and support communications.
- Verification information: email-verification status and, if enabled, phone OTP or sign-in-provider identifiers and verification results.
- Membership, credit and transaction information: selected plan, membership status, credits, ledger entries, currency, payment status, gateway name, gateway transaction/subscription identifiers, invoices, cancellation status and reconciliation records. We do not receive or store your complete card number, CVV or online-banking password; those are handled by the selected payment provider.
- Technical and security information: IP address, browser/device information, timestamps, login and security events, essential cookies, error logs, rate-limit information and records used to prevent spam, fraud or abuse.
4. Where the data comes from
We collect information directly from you; from a parent, relative, friend or other authorised profile manager; from other members when they message, block or report an account; automatically from your browser and our security systems; and from payment providers when they confirm or reconcile a transaction. If someone creates a profile about you, you may contact us to request access, correction, restriction or deletion.
5. How and why we use personal data
We use personal data only for lawful, stated and reasonably necessary purposes, including to:
- create and operate accounts and matrimonial profiles;
- display profiles and provide search, discovery and recommendation features;
- allow members to save profiles, request chat, communicate after acceptance, and manage blocks and reports;
- provide memberships, credits, profile unlocks, checkout, receipts, renewals and cancellations;
- verify accounts, approve photos and moderate content;
- respond to questions, grievances, privacy requests and disputes;
- detect and prevent fake profiles, spam, harassment, fraud, payment abuse and security incidents;
- maintain ledgers, audit records, tax/accounting records and webhook idempotency; and
- comply with applicable law, lawful requests and the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims.
Where applicable, our legal bases include your consent (including explicit consent for information treated as sensitive or special-category data), performance of our contract with you, compliance with legal obligations, and our legitimate interests in operating a safe, reliable and fraud-resistant matrimonial service. You may withdraw consent for future processing, but this does not affect processing already lawfully completed and may make some service features unavailable.
6. Profile visibility and member-to-member disclosure
A matrimonial platform works by showing selected profile information to other users. Based on your settings, profile status and the other member’s access rights, profile information may appear in discovery results, profile pages, saved profiles, chat requests and accepted conversations. Contact details and other protected information may require membership, credits, a profile unlock or another permission rule.
Deactivating a profile hides it from discovery without immediately deleting the account. You should use available privacy, block and report controls and avoid placing phone numbers, email addresses, financial information or home addresses in public biography fields or chat messages.
7. When we disclose personal data
We do not sell personal data and do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We may disclose only what is reasonably necessary to:
- Other members: profile and activity information according to platform visibility, access and mutual-consent rules.
- Payment providers: Cashfree, Razorpay, Stripe or PayPal, depending on your selected currency and payment method. Their own privacy policies govern the payment information they collect directly.
- Operational service providers: hosting, database, security, backup, email-delivery or OTP providers used to run the service. They may process data only for the service they provide and subject to appropriate contractual and security controls.
- Professional advisers and authorities: auditors, accountants, lawyers, courts, regulators or law-enforcement bodies where reasonably necessary or legally required.
- Corporate transactions: a genuine purchaser or successor in connection with a merger, financing, reorganisation or sale, subject to confidentiality and applicable notice requirements.
At the effective date, we do not intentionally use third-party advertising trackers or sell member profiles. If we later introduce optional analytics, advertising or a materially new use of data, we will update this policy and request consent where required before activating non-essential tracking.
8. International processing
NRI Matrimony is based in India and serves users worldwide. Your information may therefore be processed in India and in countries where you, another member, a payment provider or an operational service provider is located. Where cross-border transfer safeguards are required, we will use an available lawful transfer mechanism and appropriate contractual, organisational and technical protections.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies or similar local-storage technologies that are necessary for login sessions, security, preferences, checkout and core site operation. If non-essential analytics or advertising cookies are introduced, they will be described in an updated notice and, where required, will not be activated until you make a valid choice. Blocking essential cookies may prevent login, checkout or other protected features from working.
10. Retention and deletion
We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above:
- Active account and profile data is retained while the account is active.
- Profile deactivation removes the profile from normal discovery but does not permanently delete the account, messages, membership or payment records.
- For permanent deletion, email support@nri-matrimony.com from the registered address. After identity verification, we aim to remove the public profile promptly and delete or anonymise eligible account/profile data within 30 days.
- Residual copies may remain in protected backups for up to 90 days before normal rotation removes them.
- Reports, blocks, spam, fraud and security records may be retained for up to 24 months, or longer when reasonably required for an active investigation, safety issue, dispute or legal claim.
- Payment, credit-ledger, subscription, tax, accounting, reconciliation and legal records may be retained for the period required by applicable law or for resolving chargebacks, fraud and disputes.
- Messages or references needed to preserve the other participant’s conversation, investigate a report or meet a legal obligation may be retained or de-identified where immediate deletion is not lawful or reasonably possible.
We may ask for information needed to verify that a privacy request concerns you or a person you are authorised to represent.
11. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal data, including access controls, permission checks, protected credentials, secure transmission where available, rate limits, audit records, payment-webhook verification and backups. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Keep your password confidential, use a unique password, avoid sending financial credentials in chat and notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
12. Your choices and privacy rights
Subject to identity verification, applicable law and permitted exceptions, you may ask us to:
- confirm whether we process your personal data and provide access to it;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- delete or erase eligible personal data;
- withdraw consent or object to/restrict certain processing;
- provide eligible data in a portable format;
- explain the categories of data, purposes and recipients involved;
- stop promotional email communications; or
- raise a grievance without being discriminated against for exercising a privacy right.
Submit a request from your registered email address to support@nri-matrimony.com. We will acknowledge it and may request proportionate verification. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.
India: where applicable, you may exercise rights available under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act and applicable rules, including access to information, correction, erasure, grievance redressal, withdrawal of consent and nomination. Please first use our grievance process; you may then approach the Data Protection Board of India where the law permits.
EEA/UK and similar jurisdictions: where applicable, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, data portability and to complain to your local data-protection supervisory authority.
California: if the California Consumer Privacy Act applies to us, California residents may have rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of sale/sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information and receive non-discriminatory treatment. We currently state that we do not sell personal data or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
13. Communications
We may send service communications required for account verification, security, profile moderation, messages, transactions, membership status and support. Where marketing consent is required, promotional messages will be optional and will include an available unsubscribe method. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop necessary service or transaction messages.
14. Complaints and safety reports
Use platform block/report controls for suspicious profiles, spam, impersonation, harassment or unsafe conduct, and email urgent privacy concerns to support@nri-matrimony.com. We may preserve relevant information while reviewing a safety report. For immediate danger, contact the appropriate local emergency or law-enforcement authority.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our services, providers or legal obligations change. We will publish the updated version with a revised date and provide additional notice or request renewed consent where required for a material change.
